Things are Happening at the Lebanon Senior Center!

80 Tangent Street, Lebanon, OR

Whether you are looking for something to do or a fun place to hang out with new friends, the Lebanon Senior Center is a great resource for area seniors 50 years and older. The Center is not member based. Our monthly newsletter contains all of the activities, classes and programs being offered each month. A few of our August activities include:

Community Walks

Friday, August 12th 9:00-10:30am Dr. Thad Nelson Trail: We will walk from the Senior Center to the LBCC building and then walk part of the Dr. Thad Nelson Trail along the canal to Wheeler Street before returning to the Senior Center. Call 541-258-4919 to sign up.

Friday, August 26th 9:00-10:30am Old Mill Trail: We will walk from Gills Landing down to Riverview Park and back on one of the newest trails in Lebanon. It is .8miles each way on a paved path.  You can meet us at Gill’s Landing on Grant Street or catch a ride on the bus with Michelle. Call 541-258-4919 to sign up.

Tuesday, August 16th 1-2:00pm

Household Olympics

It may not be a summer the Olympics are taking the international stage, but we figured we could come up with our own unique spin with a nod to some household chores. The mundane isn’t so when turned into a game shared by friends. Drive off the dog days of summer with some laughs that may involve plungers, clothespins, potato peelers, sponges and more. Sign-ups by August 10th are encouraged so that we can have a “prize” for participants.

Tuesday, August 23rd 10:00-11:00am

Cooking Demo: Two Fruit Dips

Michelle will be demonstrating how to make two summer fun dips. Whether you are looking for a fun item to bring to a party or something new to do with an excess of fresh fruit, these tasty creations may become a new favorite for your gatherings or an afternoon snack.

Tuesday, August 23rd 1-2:00

Paper Airplane Challenge (Root Beer Float Rewards)

Sending a paper airplane soaring may sound like a childish antic but it is art and engineering neatly folded. Come fold your own airplane and see how far it can go. We will celebrate our aviation successes and failures with a round of root beer floats. Bring your grandkids or a young neighbor, so we can see if senior wisdom and experience set the standard. Please sign up by calling 541-258-4919 or stopping by the office.

Wednesday, August 24th 12:30-1:00pm

National Potato Chip Day

Yum! Enjoy the varying flavor sensations that potato chips come in as we honor these thinly sliced, fried and baked spuds. Try your tastebuds at taking our challenge to identify the flavors of the chips we provide.

NEW EXERCISE Classes:

Mondays, 9:00-9:40am, Get Centered:   This class is influenced by yoga and other flexibility and balance practices. All abilities welcome.  Participants can use a chair instead of getting on the  ground.  We will meet outside on the lawn on nice weather days. Bring a towel or yoga mat if you have one.

Wednesdays, 1:00-1:45pm, Strength and Flex:  Improve muscle tone throughout your whole body, as we use weights, gravity and resistance to remind your muscles how powerful they can be. Gentle strength training can help improve balance, stability and your ability to do daily tasks. Activity can be done seated or standing. You’re are welcome to bring your own weights; we will have two pound weights available
