Storm Drainage

Storm Drains

Our Services

The City of Lebanon Collections section consists of three full-time employees. Storm drainage tasks include open drainage way cleaning, drywell cleaning and repair, catch basin cleaning, storm line cleaning and televising, and manhole construction and repair. In addition, this crew handles the wastewater collections maintenance.

In the past, residential storm drainage cleaning was conducted on an emergency basis - clogged drainpipes and overgrown ditches resulting in flooding would receive attention. The Public Works Department adopted a five-year maintenance goal to clean all underground piping, catch basins and open drain ways. In addition, the City Council decided to proceed with initiating a Storm Drainage Utility. The implementation goals after establishing the Utility are:

  • To inspect and clean all publicly owned storm drainage pipes and open channels within seven years. These facilities would be cleaned on a regular basis in future years.
  • To prepare for the Environmental Protection Agency's Phase II Storm Water Regulations.

Benefits of the Stormwater System:

  • Prevents flooding and damage to property
  • Helps the ecosystem reclaim water
  • Enhances water quality
  • Increases the health of local waterways.

The Stormwater System is separate from the Sanitary Sewer System, which carries wastewater from sinks, showers, and toilets away from neighborhoods to wastewater treatment facilities.

Although both are out-of-sight, the health and sanitation of our City and local waterways depend on these two separate underground systems.

Responsibility

The Public Works Department is responsible for managing, inspecting, and cleaning the public Stormwater System.

Property owners are responsible for the storm lines that connect homes and business to the public system.
